Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced that summer vacations for all schools across the province will commence on May 28, in light of the ongoing severe heatwave.
The decision was made to prioritize the health and safety of students and school staff as temperatures continue to rise. The education minister emphasized that the early commencement of summer break is in line with precautionary guidelines issued by relevant departments to cope with the extreme weather.
In addition to the vacation announcement, Minister Hayat also introduced new school timings effective from Wednesday, May 21. Schools will now operate from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, allowing students to return home before the peak afternoon heat.
“New School Timings = 7:30 am to 11:30 am. School Holidays start from the 28th of May (28th will be a holiday),” Hayat stated in a post on social media platform X.
While acknowledging the impact of previous closures on academic progress, the minister reiterated that student safety remains the top priority at this time. He urged parents and school administrations to adhere to the revised schedule and take necessary precautions to protect children during the ongoing heatwave.
