LAHORE - Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, has announced a sweeping initiative to develop and upgrade sports infrastructure across the province, aligned with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab to foster a vibrant sports culture. Presiding over a high-level meeting at the National Hockey Stadium on Monday, the minister revealed that 175 new sports schemes will be introduced in the upcoming Annual Development Programme. The Punjab Sports Department is also constructing shops and markets around major stadiums and complexes to generate sustainable revenue for future projects. Key figures including Secretary Sports Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial, DG Sports Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry, Additional Secretary Mian Usman Ali, and Project Director PMU Qaiser Raza were present at the meeting. Among the planned projects are a state-of-the-art Volleyball Court, Indoor Sports Complex, Archery Arena, Table Tennis Hall, Board Games Complex, and Baseball Complex in Lahore. The Velodrome will also be upgraded to meet international training standards.
Additionally, new Pedal Tennis Courts will be established in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Sialkot. Bahawalpur Stadium is set for renovation, while stadiums in Jampur and Rajanpur will be revived. A new Sports Complex will be developed in Dera Ghazi Khan, and modern hockey turfs will be laid in several cities, including Sahiwal and Chichawatni.
