"I do not see even a minor judicial crisis except a few judges delivering political speeches" said President Zardari in a question-answer session with a panel of senior journalists. On a historical note, on July 4th, 1977, PPP leader Z.A. Bhutto did not see a minor threat either from the PNA or from his most trusted appointee, Gen Ziaul Haq. On July 5, 1977 Mr Bhutto and members of his cabinet were arrested by troops under the orders of this same General Zia. It took only two years for Zia to organize judicial murder of the most popular leader in our history who was hanged on April 4,1979. Sometimes, the illusion of 'minor' issues can lead to downfall of the mighty. -DR IRFAN ZAFAR, Islamabad, via e-mail, November 3.
