KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) ex-minister and former MPA Nadia Gabol has joined Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Nadia says ‘ideological differences’ forced her to quit MQM.
Former Sindh Human Rights minister Nadia along with his father Sardar Abdul Gabol called on Sindh Minister Owais Muzaffar (Tappi) here on Saturday and announced her joining the PPP in a press conference.
When asked why she quit the MQM, Nadia said that the main reason behind her decision was Nabeel Gabol and that she was looking forward to moving her political carrier from the platform of PPP as a worker under the supervision of Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari.
She said her family had been having good relations with the PPP leadership and she has observed the politics of the PPP for long and finally made the decision of joining it. Owais Muzaffar said Nadia had joined PPP as a worker and the party welcomed her.
Earlier, Nadia, after having concerns over Lyari issues and former PPP leader Nabeel Gabol’s joining the MQM, had halted her political activities and initiated contacts with many senior leaders of various political parties to secure a better position in some other party.
Nadia is a law graduate from Manchester Metropolitan University and niece of PPP leader Sardar Nabil Gabol. She had formally joined MQM on April 1, 2006 after meeting with the MQM chief Altaf Hussain in London.
MQM coordination Committee member Ameenul Haq, while talking to The Nation, said that MQM is one of the major political parties of the country and Nadia’s quitting MQM was her personal decision. He claimed that MQM was the only party that provided opportunity to the ordinary people to rise as a political figure. He said Nadia’s quitting MQM was nothing new as history testifies that misfit politicians have been unable to secure and maintain significant position in Muttahida.
