President stresses self-reliance in all disciplines of science, technologies

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has emphasized the need for self-reliance in all disciplines of knowledge.

He was addressing Second Conference on Space in Islamabad today.

The President said knowledge, research and development are not exclusive to anyone but regrettably some regions and nations are discriminated in this regard.

He said research is crucial for progress and development and it is, therefore, imperative to strive for self-reliance.

Mamnoon Hussain noted that Pakistan's first communication satellite Paksat-I played a pivotal role in indigenous research and development in science and technology. He expressed the confidence that successful launch of the Remote Sensing Satellite in near future would further this objective.

The President also expressed his pleasure that space knowledge and technology is also being used for planning and monitoring of the century's biggest project - China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

He hoped that the conference would afford opportunity to young Pakistani scientists and engineers to interact with delegates from other countries and learn from their experiences.

Radio Pakistan's correspondent says International Conference on Space is a biennial event focusing on all aspects of space. It is aimed at providing a forum to share latest developments in space technologies and applications, and discuss ways and means of using these to address issues of international concern.
