Pakistan, Rwanda agree to expand bilateral ties

Pakistan and Rwanda have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral ties across diverse sectors including trade, investment, defense, diplomacy, and people-to-people exchanges.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe in Islamabad on Monday. The two sides held comprehensive discussions covering the full spectrum of their bilateral relations.

Speaking at a joint press stakeout, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized the importance of enhancing existing ties and exploring new areas of collaboration. He announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on diplomatic training, highlighting Pakistan’s focus on deepening diplomatic cooperation.

Dar noted that Pakistan values its relationship with Rwanda and welcomed the inauguration of the Rwandan High Commission in Islamabad during the minister's visit. He said Pakistan offers a promising market for Rwandan goods and sees strong potential for its exports—such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, surgical instruments, agri-tech, and sports goods—in Rwanda’s fast-growing economy.

He also underscored the scope for partnership in Information and Communication Technology, particularly in digital transformation, e-governance, fintech, and innovation for youth.

On multilateral platforms, Dar said both countries enjoy robust cooperation and regularly support each other’s candidatures at the United Nations and other international forums.

Rwandan Foreign Minister Nduhungirehe echoed the sentiment, stating that Pakistan and Rwanda share a strong commitment to global peace, as both are among the top five contributors to UN peacekeeping missions. He described the bilateral relationship as one founded on mutual respect and a shared ambition to collaborate across multiple sectors.
