The Downfall

Parents give them pens, but they choose cigarettes. This thought devastated me when I saw a teenage university girl buying cigarettes. It made me wonder how some of our young women are losing their way.

Parents send their daughters to university to secure a better future and help them grow into strong, independent women. However, in many university hostels, rather than focusing on education and personal development, some young women are engaging in harmful habits—such as smoking, excessive use of social media, skipping classes, and wasting time on unproductive activities. These behaviours harm not only academic performance but also physical and mental health. Once a girl falls into such habits, it becomes increasingly difficult to guide her back onto a positive path.

It is time for university authorities to take action. Hostel rules must be made stricter, and parents should remain actively involved in their daughters’ lives.
