Lesson three: shining India

My dear Muhammad Ali: No longer is a bird in hand better than two in the bush. Now a boot on Bush is better than two on the feet. Another joke has it that the 'flying shoes' of the intrepid Iraqi journalist Muntazer al-Zaidi came from Lahore. "In that case," say the Lahories, "they wouldn't have missed." Perhaps they might find a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) cobbler from the famous shoe-making town of Kasur situated conveniently close to the Indian border who was indoctrinated in a Pakistani madrassah and trained in its Guerrilla Academy in Pakistan. Perhaps the hide that the shoes were made from came from an emaciated cow that haplessly strayed into Pakistan looking for fodder. We could have a major conspiracy here. Wait for the UN Security Council to dutifully demand the banning and arrest of all Pakistani cobblers. And wait for our government to dutifully comply, for we are not Indians thank God and do adhere to UN Security Council resolutions, unlike them. I'm wondering why Pakistan hasn't yet been blamed for the riots in Athens that were sparked off after a 15-year old boy was killed by the Greek police, for they too could have been indoctrinated and trained in Pakistan by the ISI, "rogue elements in the army", Al-Qaeda or Lashkar-e-Taiba or a combination of them all. Gordon Brown, who says that 75 percent of all serious terrorism-related cases Britain is investigating are "linked to Al-Qaeda in Pakistan" should look closer to home in the counsel houses of Bradford, Birmingham and London and ask why these British-born, British-educated Pakistanis and Muslims turn against their adopted country. Actually son, Pakistan is being stitched up for some vile action just as Iraq was stitched up to 'justify' an attack on that poor country. The western media, think tanks and intelligence agencies were all hand-in-glove in creating the perception of Iraq as "the most dangerous country in the world." It is America actually that is the most dangerous country in the world; you only have to see how it has destroyed the world's economies and its security, including their own, in the last eight years. Perhaps they are also the most stupid rather than dangerous only. Iraq was accused of harbouring weapons of mass destruction. No one asked who gave it those weapons. Pakistan is being accused of harbouring terrorists. No one asks who gave us those terrorists. Let's talk more to the Indians. "How could a small outfit carry out such as high precision attacks in Mumbai," they ask. Here's the answer in the words, not of a Pakistani Muslim, but an Indian called Amaresh Misra: "It is 4AM in India right now. I am in Mumbai reporting from the ground. I have not slept a wink. Mumbai is under attack. People and forces who killed Mahatama Gandhi, who demolished the Babri Mosque have triumphed. More than 16 groups of terrorists have taken over Taj, Oberai and several hotels. Hundreds of people are dead. For the first time no one is blaming Muslim organisations. The Mumbai ATS [Anti Terrorism Squad] chief Hemant Karkare and other officers of the ATS have been killed. These were the same people who were investigating the Malegaon Blasts - in which Praggya Singh, an army officer and several other noted personalities of the BJP-RSS-Bajrang Dal-VHP were arrested. Karkare was the man to arrest them. Karkare was receiving threats from several quarters. L K Advani, the BJP chief and several other prominent leaders of the so-called Hindu terrorism squad were gunning for his head. And the first casualty in the terrorist attack was Karkare He is dead - gone. The firing by terrorists began from Nariman House, which is the only building in Mumbai inhabited by Jews. Some Hindu Gujaratis of the Nariman area spoke live on several TV channels - they openly said that the firing by terrorists began from Nariman House. And that for two years suspicious activities were going on in this house. But no one took notice. "Our worst fears have come true. It is clear that MOSSAD is involved in the whole affair. And entire city has been attacked by MOSSAD and probably units of mercenaries. It is not possible for one single organisation to plan and execute such a sophisticated operation. It is clear that this operation was backed by communal forces from within the Indian State. The Home Minister Shivraj Patil should resign. The RSS-BJP-VHP-Bajrang Dal should be banned. Advani and others ought to be arrested. Today is a day of shame for all Indians and all Hindus. Muslims and secular Hindus have been proven right. RSS type forces and Israel are all involved in not only destabilising but finishing India. India should immediately snap all relations with Israel. We owe this much to Karkare and the brave ATS men who had shown the courage to arrest Praggya Singh, Raj Kumar Purohit, the army officer and several others." Less than 12-hours later, Amaresh Misra continued. "It is nearly 3.45 PM in India right now. The terror attacks on Mumbai, orchestrated by the RSS-MOSSAD combine are not in anyone's control now. The entire Mumbai ATS [Anti Terrorism Squad] team investigating the Malegaon Blasts and the ring [around] Hindutva terrorism has been wiped out. "RSS sympathisers are cheering Karkare's death. They say that he fell victim to the paap (sin) committed by him in arresting Sadhus etc. "Why did Advani meet Manmohan Singh some days back? What transpired in the meet? How is it that M K Narayanan, the National Security Advisor, and the prime minister issued an unprecedented defensive statement just days before assuring that there will be no 'torture' on the Saadhvi? "There is obviously a nexus between Advani and Singh. Is Sonia in the know? Another angle: some days back, Pradeep Sharma, the celebrity ex-encounter specialist of the Mumbai Police, was dismissed by A N Roy, the Mumbai DGP and Hasan Ghaffor, the Mumbai Police Commissioner. Official charges against Sharma include working for the Chota Rajan gang, eliminating Muslims at will and 'committing unspeakable acts of torture on Muslims'. "Karkare, Salaskar and Ashok Kaamte, the three police officers of the ATS killed in the terror attacks, were part of the anti-Pradeep Sharma group. Now the Indian media is talking about the underworld role. It is odd that all three Police ATS officers killed should belong to the anti-Pradeep Sharma, anti-Chota Ranjan group. "It seems that there is a nexus between RSS-MOSSAD and Chota Rajan. Now it must be remembered that in the 1990s, certain elements in the Mumbai Crime Branch had projected Chota Rajan as a 'Hindu Don' to counteract Dawood. Rajan was close to the Home Ministry under Advani during NDA years of power between 1999 and 2004. "Firing from the Nariman House, the traditional place of Jews in Mumbai is still on; no one from inside Nariman House has been hurt - for some reason the police is not assaulting Nariman House. Now an incredible thing has happened - crowds of Hindus and Muslims have come together in a united bid against what they see as a MOSSAD plot. These crowds are saying that if the police is not assaulting Nariman House, they will do so. Karkare was an inch away from implicating Praveen Togadia and Chota Rajan in the Malegaon Blast case Those who doubt what I am saying, what do they have to say now? Come on, speak up." Remember, this is not I but an Indian speaking. They will say: "Amaresh Misra is in the pay of your ISI" or some such. Then what about A R Antulay, your minority affairs minister and ruling Congress Party MP? The Times of India says he "set off a major political row by demanding a probe into the shooting of Mumbai ATS chief Hemant Karkare in the 26/11 terror strikes which he linked to investigations into alleged involvement of Hindu radicals in the Malegaon Blast case...Antulay told the media outside Parliament's gate number 12 that 'there must have been some reason why Karkare went to Cama hospital instead of Taj and Oberoi hotels'. Antulay said 'someone' could have told Karkare and other officers with him to go to Cama hospital, suggesting that the ATS chief fell victim to a set-up as he was probing cases which involved Hindu radicals in the Malegaon case." Later, Antulay added that, "Those who riot are also terrorists", referring to anti-minority, especially anti-Muslim rioters. Worse, "Devendra Yadav demanded that the Home Minister P Chidambaram constitute a 'probe on the relations between terror and Sangh Parivar' [a Hindu terrorist group]." There's hope for you yet, my errant neighbours, for you do have many sane, intellectually honest people in India as well. The writer is a senior political analyst. E-mail:humayun.gauhar@gmail.com
