US call to unplug CCTV on Davis rejected

LAHORE The Kot Lakhpat Jail authorities on Sunday rejected a request by US Consul General in Lahore, Carmella Conroy, to remove CCTV cameras installed for the security of US killer Raymond Davis in the prison. Carmella Conroy along with other US officials met Davis at the highly-guarded, luxury prison cell in the jail and handed over food to him. The US officials asked the jail authorities to immediately remove CCTV cameras installed in the prison cell to check the movement of killer, but the authorities plainly rejected the request, stating that the measures were taken for security. Sources in the Prison Department said that the Punjab Home Department has given special concessions to the American killer, enabling US officials to provide him with food and other luxuries. The jail authorities are also according special protocol to the American killer on the government orders. On the other hand, not even basic facilities are provided to the other inmates held on murder charges. Sources said that the hundreds of other prisoners at the Kot Lakhpat Jail are protesting against the indifference of the authorities towards them.
