LHC restrains construction of CNG station

LAHORE–The Lahore High Court on Monday issued restraining orders for the construction of a CNG station in the residential area of Allama Iqbal Town and issued notices to the City District Government, the OGRA and others respondents.
Justice Mansoor Ali shah heard the petition challenging the establishment of CNG stations and Petrol Pumps in residential areas of the province.
The petitioner Ashraf Khan submitted that under LDA Act 1975 and Local Government Ordinance 2001 commercial activities could not be carried out in residential areas but the Punjab government and LDA had allowed people to convert residential areas into commercial zones after paying the commercialization fee which is a violation of the rules and regulations.
The petitioner contended that he is the resident of 397- Pak Block, Allama Iqbal Town, and a CNG station is being set up near his house after demolishing three houses. He added that DCO Lahore has issued a Not Objection Certificate while permission had also been secured from the Ministry of Industries.
