Bilal Tahir wins Deaf Squash title

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Bilal Tahir clinched the second Chief Minster Punjab Open Deaf Squash Championship title in the seniors category while Ali Khalid won the under-19 category title here at the Punjab Squash Complex on Wednesday. In the match of 60 minutes, Bilal Tariq defeated Bilal Attiq by 11-4, 10-12, 6-11, 11-4, 11-6 after a tough competition while on the other hand, Ali Khalid took just 15 minutes to outplay Faraz Hussain 11-0, 11-0, 11-3 (3-0) to win under-19 title of the event. Patron Pakistan Deaf Squash Association (PDSA) Ali Shahid Ansari was the chief guest on the occasion while President Pakistan Deaf Squash Association Dr Khalid Jamil and Treasurer Punjab Squash Association M Mansoor was also present there. Chief guest Ali Shahid Ansari distributed prizes among the winners. Talking to the media men, President PDSA Dr Khalid Jamil said that the association had been organising such events from last seven years. As many as 44 deaf players from all the provinces especially from Punjab and its capital city took part in this event. These deaf players can play squash very well and earn laurels at international for the country if they will be given proper chance and exposure. If there will be sponsorship for these talented and skilled deaf players, it will encourage them to bring laurels for the country, he said. Dr Khalid also appealed government of Pakistan and Punjab govt to sponsor them as much as they could for the great cause. These players are going to appear in the Auckland 2012 Games in October and the association appeals both the governments to sponsor the tickets of players so that they may exhibit their prowess at international level and earn laurels, he concluded.
