The Multan-bound Mehr Express, coming from Rawalpindi via Kundian, was derailed at Muzaffargarh railway station, following an oil-cargo train which derailed hours before this incident at the same point.

According to the railways authorities, the General Manager has been ordered to carry out an inquiry into the incident as the passengers train derailed after rescue operation and restoration of the track by the railway engineering staff after the derailment of an oil-cargo train.

Railways Divisional Superintendent Shah Rukh Khan informed that the incident took place at 5am near Muzaffargarh railway crossing when at least five bogies of a train derailed. The train was en route to Multan from Rawalpindi. On the other hand, a goods train (oil-tankers) faced an accident due to sudden break of train at the same point. The railway DS said that two trains derailed in two separate mishaps in Muzaffargarh on Monday. However, no casualty was reported in both the incidents. Meanwhile, Muzaffargarh DCO Hafiz Shaukat Ali arranged private transport to send the passengers to their destination.
