Head of AQ release body receives threats

KARACHI - Unidentified men threatened the family of the Chairman 'Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan Release Committee', Hassamul Haq, while fleeing after looting his house at 7 Commercial Lanes, Defence Housing Authority (DHA), here on Friday. Hassamul Haq said that when the incident took place, he was in Islamabad to attend the APDM meeting held to devise strategy early release of Dr A.Q. Khan. He alleged that nearly four armed men entered his house in the presence of his wife and driver and robbed jewelry and cash. Before fleeing, they warned his wife to stop her husband campaigning for the release of nuclear scientist. They further warned his wife that they know about all activities of his family including the work place of his daughter. They threatened to kidnap his daughter and blow up the house with a bomb. Later, the criminals took his wife to the balcony to make her see a police mobile unit standing on the road and said 'we came here with the police and we can do anything'. However, the police have registered a case. To a question, Hassam said 'how is it possible that police can protect me and my family when the unidentified men came under the protection of the same police' adding that he would never stop his campaign for the release of Dr A.Q. Khan. However, Clifton Town SP Azad Khan told the newsmen that it was just an incident of robbery and denied that there was a police mobile unit on the spot.
