Sharjeel Memon seeks disqualification of Nawaz

KARACHI – Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Saturday demanded the Election Commission to disqualify the PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif from the politics as his dishonesty and corruption had been proved in Asghar Khan case verdict of Supreme Court about receiving money from Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) to form Islami Jamhori Ittehad against the general elections in 1990.
Addressing a press conference at the Chief Minister House, Sindh government’s mouthpiece Sharjeel Inam Memon said that truth had come on surface after 22 years, declaring the innocence of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), whose mandate was snatched with dacoity in 1990.
Along with provincial minister Jam Mehtab Dahar and other ministers and MPAs, Sindh information minister came down hard on PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif, claiming that PPP will protect the people of Punjab from the dacoits of PML-N, whose corruption has been proved in Asghar Khan case.
He said that like the Supreme Court disqualified the parliamentarians for their dual citizenship and not telling the truth, the politicians and parliamentarians who are part of the current Assembly should be disqualified for taking part in the politics on their proved dishonesty.
He termed distributing money to the IJI against the PPP and receiving money was a conspiracy against the democracy. He demanded to initiate trial against all the people involved in distributing and receiving money to defeat the PPP through rigging in 1990.
Memon said that the verdict of the Supreme Court proved that the PPP was the winner of 1990 elections. He demanded that politicians who received money should apologise from the nation and return money in the national exchequer.
He said that Supreme Court verdict had proved that in elections of 1990, the PPP was a real winner but rigging in elections caused its defeat.
The verdict disclosed dishonesty of Nawaz Sharif who sold himself to establishment for monetary gains, he said. “In this decision, it is also stated that money was provided unconstitutionally to the victory of a certain party and that party was no other party than the IJI.”
He said that Mian Nawaz Sharif was then head of the IJI and people came to know that Nawaz was a thief sold his faith only for money.
He also caused a setback to democracy and insulted the mandate of the masses.
He said that as names of Asad Durrani and Aslam Baig have been mentioned who had provided money to get the IJI became victorious in the elections, the same way Nawaz Sharif’s name should also be mentioned.
“People are unable to understand why his name has not been taken in this regard. Why he has been given relaxation who committed a crime against the mandate of the people,” he added.
Terming the arrest of son-in law of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was a drama and said that terrorism of Sharif family had been exposed with the beating of an employee of bakery in Lahore.
