Peshawar-University of Peshawar administration has announced t provide special scholarships to students hailing from the flood-hit areas and to revise the basic pay of the employees.

The decision was taken at the Finance and Planning Committee meeting, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Idrees. The VC directed the UoP’s Directorate of Admissions to make arrangements for providing special scholarships to the male and female students of the flood-affected areas.

The meeting was informed that the university had not increased its fees during the last three years while the hostels fees had also not been increased despite an increase in electricity tariff and power generators’ fuel prices.

The VC also directed the varsity administration to keep the Central Library on the campus open for 12 hours daily, ie from 8am to 8pm so that students can benefit from the huge numbers of books available for research and study. A spokesman for the university said that modern tools have been installed in the Central Library where students can search books of their choice within seconds through an automated system. A separate section has been established for PhD research scholars in the library.
