Nabeela clinches four golds in Inter-Board Sports athletics

ISLAMABAD  - Nabeela Kausar sets a new record by clinching four gold medals that helped her team and hosts Mirpur, AJK Board to grab overall trophy of the Inter-Boards Sports (Girls) competition here Sunday.
Nabeela won golds in long jump, 200m, discus throw and 4x100m relay race. Nabeela attributed her success to her parents and sports teachers. “I am highly blessed to have such supporting parent as it is very hard for females in our area to get involved in sports. It is just because of their support that I managed to create new record. It is my dream to represent Pakistan in international events and win laurels for the country. I just need Athletics Federation of Pakistan, IPC and PSB support as if they would invite me for the national camp, I promised not to disappoint them.”
Pakistani athletes’ worst showing in recently-concluded 12th South Asian Games demands that the federations should explore and develop talent like Nabeela to get better results in future international events.
Meanwhile, the organisation of the event was a chaos as participating girls were provided with substandard and unhygienic food. The organisers ignored the fact that these girls are not that professional and were raw talent while holding 4x400 relay race as majority of the girls failed to complete the race. Those who completed the race, fell unconscious at the finish line and needed medical care. The presence of Dr Shabeena and other medical staff on the spot saved the players from the worst. When this scribe contacted convener of the event M Shahid, DDG Academics and wanted to know why such tough events were included, he held the respective boards responsible. “We had warned them, but they insisted for the inclusion of the event and they are solely responsible for putting girls’ in such situation.”
