PU seeks Inter certificates record of 18 MPs from HEC

LAHORE The Punjab University (PU) has requested the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to furnish the record of Intermediate examination certificates of 18 parliamentarians to complete the verification of their BA/BSc degrees which are currently under surveillance. It is suspected that not only the BA, BSc, but a number of parliamentarians have not even qualified Intermediate and Matric examinations. The PU spokesman said that the University was carrying out the verification of degrees of some 78 parliamentarians which would be completed by July 27 while report of about 280 parliamentarians degrees had already been sent to the HEC, 63 of them sent on Monday last. Meanwhile, sources told The Nation that there was no record at all of degrees so far declared bogus while there were cases in which same roll no, seat no, form no, kind of affidavit and institutions etc as of someone other, had been detected. Only the photograph is changed. All these particulars on which the degrees have been issued are being suspected fake. It is reported that as many as 103 such degrees issued seemed bogus. The PU had also requested the HEC to send record of eight degrees as they were unreadable conveniently. The affected persons are, meanwhile, exerting influence on the staff and the vice-chancellors to keep them away from the verification of the relevant record, said the sources. Such cases were not merely in the Punjab, but in Sindh and other provinces also, and the pressure is being mounted on varsities and the HEC to wind up the verification process as early as possible, they added. Health Dept decision lauded It is a wise decision by the Punjab health department not to issue practice permits to non-registered medical practitioners. PMA appreciated this decision, as life of a common man cannot be left at the mercy of quakes. This was observed in a meeting at PMA House Lahore with Prof Dr Yasmin Raashid in the Chair. Dr Izhar Ahmad Ch, Dr Salman Kazmi and Dr Talha Sherwani and others attended the meeting. It was decided to constitute District Vigilance Committees comprising of PMA, media and officers of the health department. These committees will identify quake clinics and will try to bring them to book. Letter to divisional health directors have been issued in this regard.
