KARACHI - In a positive step to give relief to the people, the Sindh government on Thursday announced Ramazan Package, under which wheat flour will be provided at subsidised rates. This was decided in a meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the CM House, which discussed different steps of Ramazan Package. The CM said that the poor and needy people would get benefit from this subsidy and sale of flour at subsidised price, which will be ensured at any cost. The meeting decided that the Sindh government would set subsidised price of atta (flour) under Ramazan Package within two days. The chief minister said that Ramazan Sharif is a holy month and all Muslims observe this month with due respect and sanctity, so all measures be adopted to control the hoarding, profiteering and price hike at all trade centres and markets. He said that the district, sub-divisional and taluka administrations, law enforcement agencies, officers of food, bureau of supply and prices and other departments should take prompt measures to curb the menace of hoarding, price hike and illegal profiteering, while prompt action would be taken against such wholesalers, retail traders and businessmen. Syed Qaim Ali Shah added that the federal government had fixed the target of 1.3 million metric tonnes of wheat for Sindh, but he had directed the food department to enhance the target of procurement of wheat up to 1.5 million metric tonnes. Shah said that mill owners would be provided wheat on subsidised rates and they would arrange provision for 10kg bags of atta for the needy and poor people, while all deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and mukhtiarkars would establish Atta Subsidised Sale Centres in all districts and Taluka headquarters. The chief minister also directed that administration should ensure sale of atta on subsidised price particularly in interior parts of province and trend of charging higher prices would be curbed with effective measures.
