Manchester United won the Champions League here beating Premiership rivals Chelsea 6-5 in a penalty shootout after the match finished 1-1 after extra-time. United claimed their second Champions League title under Sir Alex Ferguson when Edwin van der Sar saved from Chelsea's Nicolas Anelka - Anelka's club captain John Terry had missed with what was potentially the decisive penalty earlier. United's Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo - who was to miss a penalty in the penalty shootout - opened the scoring in the 26th minute but Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard equalised on the stroke of half-time. The match ended 1-1 at the end of normal time.
