Govt providing all-out support to auto-makers

ISLAMABAD - The government is providing all-out support to the auto manufacturers and vendor industry in overcoming the current difficult situation and achieving higher levels of production. In a meeting, Chief Executive Officer of Engineering Development Board Asad Ilahi assured the representatives of Pakistan Auto Manufacturers Association (PAMA) that the government had desired to auto and vendor industry at this critical time. A press release issued by EDB here states the PAMA representatives apprised the EDB about the present scenario of auto industry. They also highlighted the problems being faced by the industry and sought EDB support in this respect. Ilahi told the meeting that EDB had already initiated measures to provide the necessary relief to the industry. "The recent decision of Federal Board of Revenue to remove condition of 35 per cent advance letter of credit (LC) margin on parts. We will continue proposing such steps to enable the industry cope with the current scenario," he pointed. Referring to the government policy, he said that the Board would make every effort to sustain the policy adopted in auto industry development programme (AIDP) formed in consultations with the stakeholders of auto industry. Meanwhile, addressing the second International Foundry Conference, the EDB's CEO formed a working group under the chairmanship of Sikandar Khan, Chairman Pakistan Foundry Association, for the development foundry sector. He said that EDB is supporting this sector to prepare a comprehensive strategic plan for the development and progress of this sector through this working group.
