CPPA-G seeks further hike in power tariff by Rs 4.75/unit

CPPA-G says total energy generated during October was 11296.23 GWh, costing over Rs 105b

ISLAMABAD   -  The Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G) has sought an increase of Rs 4.7528 per unit in power tariff under fuel charges adjustment for October 2021.

In a petition submitted to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on   behalf of power distribution companies (XWDISOCs), CPPA-G said that for the month of October the reference fuel charges from the consumers were Rs 5.1733 per unit while the actual fuel cost was Rs 9.9261 per unit. Therefore it should be allowed to pass the increase of Rs 4.7528 per unit to the consumers. Due to decrease in hydel, wind, bagasse and solar generation, expensive fuel such as HSD, furnace oil and expensive LNG was used during October which had raised the generation cost to almost Rs 10 per unit. It is worth to mention here that the cost of electricity generation was Rs 7.6816 per unit in September.

The CPPA-G further said the total energy generated during October was 11296.23 GWh, at the total cost of Rs 105.060 billion. The generation cost of per unit energy was Rs 9.3004 per unit. According to the CCPA-G data, net electricity delivered to Discos was 10982.86 GWh at the cost of Rs 109.017bn or Rs 9.9261 per unit.

The hydel power generation was recorded at 2627.25 GWh against the generation of 5085GWh in September. The share of hydel generation was 23.26pc, the share of coal in power generation decreased from 2392 GWh in September to 1885.78 GWh in October. The cost of coal generation was Rs 11.3666 per unit. The generation from high speed diesel (HSD) increased from 2.34GWh in September to 57.10 GWh in October. The cost of electricity generated from HSD was Rs 25.2250 per unit. The electricity generated from furnace oil during October increased to 1228.66 GWh from 997.44 GWh in September at the cost of Rs 21.2273 per unit.

Electricity generation from gas-based power plants decreased to 1092.75 GWh in October from 1248.28GWh in September, at Rs 7.9795 per unit. RLNG contributed 2703 GWh in October against 2651 GWh in September at Rs 16.7482 per unit.

The generation from nuclear power plants increased from 1281.80 GWh in September to 1392.92 GWh in October, at Rs 1.0176 per unit. Electricity imported from Iran was 41.41 GWh at Rs 14.3398 per unit. The power generation from bagasse was recorded at 7.14 GWh at Rs 5.9816 per unit. The power generation from different sources (mixed) was 11.87 GWh at a price of Rs 4.4942 per unit, while generation from wind was recorded at 184GWh and solar generation was 63.17 GWh. Nepra will conduct public hearing on the CPPA’s petition on November 30, 2021.
