Chinese investment in energy projects to be facilitated

ISLAMABAD (PPI) - Pakistan has great potential and vast opportunities of investment in hydel, wind and solar energy projects and would welcome and facilitate the Chinese investment in this sector. This was stated by Federal Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar while talking to a seven-member Chinese delegation lead by Ren Aiqun, Chairman of China Guodian Electric Company, who called on him here Friday at his office. The minister, while appreciating Chinese interest in the power sector, asked the company officials to submit their detailed business plan and identify the priority projects. He asked the delegation to hold their meetings with Wapda, PPIB and AEDB in this regard. He assured them the government will support and facilitate them as the country has dire need of power generation to meet its future needs. He also offered them to especially consider investment in the wind power generation as the company itself is also manufacturer of the wind power turbines and other related equipments. Coal sector has also big potential for power generation, the minister mentioned. The leader of the delegation said that the company is the second largest company in China and has expertise in the wind, solar and hydel power generation. The company is interested to invest in the power sector and supply of power plants and other related equipments to Pakistan as the manufacturers. She said that the company has planned to invest 100% in the small and medium projects and is also ready for joint ventures.
