LAHORE – Interior Minister Rehman Malik has asked all the Inspectors General (IG) Prisons to computerise the record of all the prisoners across the country, sources in the ministry told TheNation on Sunday.
A senior officer of Prisons on condition of not to be named said the step was taken by the ministry since certain hardened criminals were sitting in the jails against fake names after pretending to be involved in minor crimes and police were searching them outside the jails. He said the ministry had directed all IGs Prisons to complete the computerisation of database within month and report to the ministry through Home Departments concerned. He said that it was a good idea since with the registration of database prisons department would be helpful police to trace the where about of the criminal after arresting them.
As per project, all the criminals in the jails would be issued Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC) with the coordination of Nadra.
