Cops’ details amid violence at Punjab Assembly sought

PTI, PML-Q legislators filed a privilege motion against IG Police for interfering in affairs of Punjab Assembly

LAHORE   -   Following a privilege motion filed by more than 100 members of the Punjab Assembly over the presence of police inside the Assembly on April 16, the Assembly secretariat on Friday sought details of police officers and personnel posted in the Assembly on that day.

A heavy contingent of police had to be called in during election of the new chief minister after the PTI and PML-Q lawmakers thrashed Deputy Speaker Sardar Dost Mohammad Mazari and forced him to leave the dais. The legislators belonging to the two parties, however, filed a privilege motion against IG Punjab Police for interfering in the affairs of the Punjab Assembly. The motion was referred to the privilege committee of the house for further action. On the instructions of the privilege committee, the Assembly Secretariat on Friday sought the details of the police officers and personnel posted in the Assembly on April 16, 2022.
