Judge refuses to hear plea against Kh Ahmed Hassan

LAHORE - LHC Justice Shaujaat Ali Khan yesterday refused to hear petition seeking disqualification of Kh Ahmed Hassan from contesting election of mayor Lahore.

Citing personal reasons, the LHC judge sent the petition to the Chief Justice for its fixation before some other bench.

Waqas Aslam, a citizen, had filed this petition stating that Kh Ahmed Hassan was not eligible to contest the election of mayor. Through his counsel Sheraz Zaka, the petitioner submitted that Hassan was not even eligible to contest the election of UC chairman as he was a government functionary at that time. To contest any elections; a government functionary should quit his office at least two years before the elections. But Hassan did not resign from a government position before being elected as UC chairman.

The petitioner requested the court to declare Kh Ahmed Hassan as disqualified from being a UC chairman and consequently contesting the election of Lahore mayor.
