KARACHI: Corps Commander in Karachi Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar today vowed to maintain peace in Karachi by using all the resources.
Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar met DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar at Rangers headquarters and said that harmony in Karachi is a consequence of sacrifices and nation’s trust.
Corps Commander expressed resentment on anti-Pakistan slogans and derogatory speeches of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain while he also got briefing over the undergoing Karachi crackdown.
The crackdown was ordered by Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif after violence following a provocative speech by MQM chief Altaf Hussain.
Will continue action till the elimination of last criminal, he pledged.
Corps Commander Karachi Lt. Gen. Naveed Mukhtar called on Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan at Governor House. The meeting discussed the situation of law and order in the province especially in the metropolis, a statement said. They agreed that the operation would continue till the elimination of terrorists.
On the other hand, Corps Commander Lieutenant also met Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at CM House and discussed overall prevailing law and order situation in the province with focus on Karachi, said a statement.
CM Sindh also telephoned Inspector General Sindh AD Khawaja and exchanged views over strategies regarding protection of the locals.
Murad Ali Shah also directed IG Sindh to monitor the security of mayor and deputy mayor elections to be held on Wednesday.
Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah had chaired a law and order meeting in which he ordered Director General Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar to ensure safety of people’s life and property.
He said no one will be allowed chant anti-Pakistan slogans.
The chief minister also stated that the government will not allow anyone to made the citizens hostage and deteriorate the law and order situation in Karachi.
However, the law and order situation in Karachi is peaceful and all major educational and business centres are working as per routine following MQM’s ransacking of ARY News office and Rangers raid at the party’s headquarters and offices.
Chief Minister of Sindh and D.G. Rangers had visited the ARY News office following the incident.
The life has been normal in the port city as public transport is plying on roads, schools and offices have been opened after attack of the activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on the office of ARY News at Madina City Mall and ransacking the media office.
The workers of Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) hoisted the Pakistan flag at Mukka Chowk and sang patriotic songs. They also chanted Pakistan Zindabad slogans.
Special security measures have been adapted at sensitive areas of the metropolis whereas contingents of Police and Rangers have been deployed on roads and different parts of the provincial capital.
