LAHORE - The City District Government Lahore has imposed Section 144 to prevent the setting up illegal cattle markets in the city other than approved points.

The city government with permission of Punjab Home department imposed Section 144 which prohibits the selling and buying of sacrificial animals other than approved cattle markets in city.

The seven cattle markets are Bakar Mandi Shahpur Kanjran Multan Road, Adda Rakh Chabeel G.T Road Manawan, Punjab Government Employees Corporative Housing Society Township, Audit and Accounts Society No.2 Kacha Jail Road, DHA Phase 9 Prism opposite Nishat Mill Hayyara Drain and remaining two at Hazrat Usman Road Main Saggain Road Ravi Town.

The official notifications state that selling of sacrificial animal for the forthcoming Eid-ul-Azha at different roads of Lahore city is not only a security hazard but also creates hindrance in smooth flow of traffic which poses a danger to human life and property and it is likely to disturb public peace and tranquility.

Shahpur Kanjran is city’s biggest sale point for sacrificial animals which is set up Lahore Division Cattle Market Management Company. The company was incorporated with objective to establish, organise, manage, operate and regulate cattle markets.

Availability of water, electricity, veterinary services, shade (sheds) parking and cleanliness and toilets are the main hurdles faced by citizens while visiting the cattle markets.

The Lahore Waste Management Company and other private firms (Albayrak Waste Management) are tasked to ensure cleanliness in cattle markets.
