Jirga settles tribal dispute

THATTA – Balochistan’s former Chief Minister Sardar Saleh Muhammad Bhootani presided over a jirga here and resolved the four-year-old bloody dispute between Mundh and Bakik communities.
As per the jirga verdict, the Bakik community has to pay Rs8.8million and Mundh community Rs2.3 million as penalty. The bloody conflict had claimed three lives while and 25 others sustained injuries.
Adviser Syed Ijaz Ali Shah Shirazi and representatives of different communities were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, twelve proposed candidates have received nomination forms for the by-election to Sindh Assembly seat PS-84 (Thatta-1).
This seat had fallen vacant after the resignation of former MPA and Sindh Minister Sadiq Ali Memon who had held dual nationality. The election is scheduled to be held on February 18. Those who got nomination forms included former MPA Sadiq Ali Memon, Ms. Shamsunisa Memon, Muhammad Ali Memon, Jamil Ahmed Memon, Noor Muhammad Hingoro, Manzoor Khushik, Abdul Wahid Brohi, Muhammad Hasan Jakharo, Faisal Ahmed Memon, Sikandar Ali Jakharo, Ahmed Ali Halo and Abdul Hameed Panhwar.
So far, the Pakistan People’s Party and other parties have not formally announced their tickets to declare their final authentic candidates. However in-door consultations have been reported in political circles for the by-election.
