Lightning strike kills four in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, ISLAMABAD   -  At least four persons of a family died and one injured when lightning hit their house in Hassan Khel area of Peshawar on Saturday, rescue workers said. According to Emergency Service Rescue 1122, the dead bodies and injured were shifted to a local hospital.

While many parts of the Punjab province received heavy rains on Saturday, torrential rains and snowfall partially paralysed routine life in Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK). Heavy downpour turned weather chilly across the Punjab and KP provinces.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar directed authorities concerned to remain vigilant in the wake of ongoing spell of rain across the province. Giving direction to the PDMA, he ordered to make necessary arrangements for immediate removal of snow from Murree and connecting roads. The Chief Minister also stressed to ensure ban on overcrowding in Murree. He said that the protection of the lives of the people is paramount in all respects and no negligence will be tolerated in this regard.

Galyat received one point five feet of snow during the eighth spell of heavy snowfall on Saturday. The snowfall is likely to continue till Tuesday. According to the Galyat Development Authority, GDA also established a district emergency control room top help people in case of any emergency.

Meanwhile, National Highway Authority deployed staff and equipment in Murree after the forecast of snowfall. According to NHA, Staff of Motorway Police and NHA will remain present to extend help in case of any emergency.

Vehicular Traffic in snow-clad Leepa and Neelam vallies as well as Mahmood Galli – Abbaspur road in Poonch division, Neelam and Leepa valleys and Nikayal in Kotli district was affected at various sections due to heavy snowfall since wee hours Saturday, SDMA sources said.

The daily life disrupted mostly in snow-clad areas due to worsening weather conditions in the heavy rains-hit town which was continuing till last reports came in.

As a result of season’s third heavy intermittent rains and snow-fall in the upper reaches of Neelam and Leepa valleys as well as various parts of the mountainous capital city of Muzaffarabad and Bagh districts of AJK since Friday, these areas were badly affected through land routes.
