Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi struck to dismiss Ramnaresh Sarwan as West Indies slipped further back after electing to bat first. West Indies were dealt early blows as they lost Chris Gayle, Devon Smith and Darren Bravo early on. First one was to was Gayle, while attempting a lofted shot over mid-off, was holed out to Shahid Afridi of the bowling of Umar Gul. Mohammad Hafeez, who opened the bowling with Gul, then struck twice in one over by picking up the opener Smith and Bravo. Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul played cautiously in middle overs but Shahid Afridi got better off Sarwan when he tried to cut the ball but gave an easy catch to Umar Akmal at point.
