Khanewal
Dissident PML-N Member Punjab Assembly (MPA) Faisal Akram Khan Niazi on Sunday resigned from his assembly seat. He submitted his resignation to Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Chaudhry Parvez Elahi. Faisal Akram Khan Niazi, who was elected as MPA from PP-209 Khanewal on the ticket of PML-N, on Sunday tendered his resignation to Speaker Parvez Elahi. Faisal Akram Khan Niazi was a worker and candidate of PTI before General Elections 2018. He was not awarded ticket by PTI for contesting election from Khanewal. He, however, managed to get PML-N ticket to contest election on provincial assembly seat during 2018 General Elections. PP-209 (Khanewal) constituency has historically been a PML-N bastion. He won this provincial assembly seat but in September-October 2020, five Punjab Assembly members of PML-N met then Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar and they were very vocal against PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif. Among those five MPAs, two lawmakers Nishat Khan and Faisal Khan Niazi belonged to Khanewal while Jalil Ahmed Sharaqpur, Chaudhry Ashraf from Sheikhupura and Molvi Ghiasuddin hailed from Narowal. These five provincial assembly members of PML-N had openly announced their distrust in the PML-N leadership. Among these five lawmakers, MPA Nishat Khan Daha (from Khanewal) died but PML-N again won that seat of the provincial assembly in by-election. Faisal Akram is one of four provincial assembly lawmakers who were elected on PML-N ticket but not following instructions of the PML-N leadership. These four members of Punjab Assembly are taking instructions from the PTI leadership and they are openly attending PTI public gatherings. Faisal Niazi did not vote in favour of Hamza Shehbaz in the recent chief minister elections of the Punjab Assembly.
On Sunday after the Punjab Assembly session, Faisal Akram Khan Niazi of PP-209 tendered his resignation to Speaker Punjab Assembly Parvez Elahi.
