Kamran Lashari resigns as DG Walled City of Lahore Authority

Kamran Lashari has tendered his resignation as Director General of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), citing personal reasons in a letter addressed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

In his resignation letter, Lashari expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, calling it a "great honour and privilege." He said he carried out his responsibilities with sincerity and was driven by a desire to promote Pakistan’s peaceful and culturally rich image, aiming to boost both domestic and international tourism.

"However, due to personal reasons, I find myself unable to continue discharging the duties of this office," the letter stated.

While the official reason given is personal, sources close to the development suggest that Lashari's decision was prompted by his reservations over a recent government move to hand back the management of key heritage sites including the Lahore Fort and Shalimar Gardens to the Department of Archaeology.

Additionally, concerns were raised over the organisation of private marriage events at the Lahore Fort, reportedly without necessary amendments to the existing 1950 regulations, further straining the situation.

Farhan Nazir has also reportedly submitted his resignation, though details regarding his departure remain unclear.

Lashari, a seasoned bureaucrat and prominent figure in heritage conservation, was instrumental in numerous restoration projects under WCLA, particularly in revitalising Lahore’s historic core. His departure marks a significant shift in the leadership of the authority.
