Meeting reviews supply of relief goods

ISLAMABAD - A meeting to review the supply of relief goods to displaced families of the Bajaur Agencies was held on Saturday in the Ministry of Interior. Adviser on Interior to Prime Minister Rehman Malik chaired the meeting and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi also participated in the meeting. Interior Secretary, NDMA Chairman Gen. (Retd) Farooq and NWFP Relief Commissioner were also present in the meeting. The Adviser on Interior observed with concern that relief goods supply to the displaced families is not being conducted in smooth manner. To improve upon the arrangements, he directed Managing Director of the Utility Stores to provide 10,000 bags of composite ration to the displaced families of Bajaur Agency by day after tomorrow August 25, 2008.  Malik also appealed to Abdul Sattar Edhi during the meeting for provision of food items and medicine for camps, established at Dir, NWFP. Edhi very generously agreed to start supplying relief items to the camps as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the federal government is releasing Rs 80.032 million on the request of Ministry of Interior for the items like atta, 15,000 bags of 40 kgs each, 10,000 tents and medicines. Rehman Malik also directed Additional Interior Secretary along with representative of NDMA to visit personally the camps to overview the supply of relief goods to the displaced people, in coordination with provincial relief authorities and report back to federal government for any further help. Malik Riaz has donated 10 trucks of atta and two trucks loaded with ghee for the Bajaur refugees. The federal government through National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided 5,000 tents, 6,000 blankets, and 19,000 plastic mats for the Bajaur refugees to the NWFP Provincial Relief Commissioner.
