KARACHI - The first open-heart surgery of heart tumour of a four-month-old girl infant in south Asia successfully operated at Dr Ziauddin Hospital, North Nazimabad, Karachi by consultant surgeon Dr Tariq M Sherani. The open-heart surgery of such a small child is reported for the first time in Pakistan, said Dr Tariq Sherani. Surgery continued for three hours, baby is safe now and has been shifted to the ward, he added. Dr Tariq said primary tumours of the hearts in infants and children were extremely rare. Out of 25 million hardly one case of this type was reported and heart tumours in infants were different from those seen in adults.
