ISLAMABAD - Amid growing concerns about the possible ruling coalition's split over the deadlock of the deposed judges' restoration, Governor Punjab Salman Taseer Saturday held a meeting with President Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain here at the latter's residence. The meeting, in which Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was also present, took place at the same time when a PPP delegation was holding crucial talks with PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif at Raiwind, Lahore. The sources told that the Governor had not only sought PML-Q's help for PPP presidential contender but had also discussed the possibility of Q-League's cooperation with PPP at centre as well as in Punjab, if the two major ruling coalition partners, PPP and PML-N, parted away over the judicial deadlock. According to sources, Chaudhry brothers assured the Governor that they would continue supporting the democratic process as a responsible opposition, however, 'the decision regarding the support of PPP presidential candidate would be taken by the party'. "Chaudhry brothers also raised the issue of the arrest of leaders and workers of PML-Q and emphasised that the practice of political vendetta should end," the sources added. Chaudhry brothers further informed that a meeting of Central Executive Committee, parliamentary party and PML-Q senators had been convened tomorrow (Monday) in which PML-Q would take up all the issues including fielding of its own candidate for the slot of the president. Meanwhile, after the formal announcement by PPP to field party's co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari for presidential election triggered some unconfirmed news reports in the media have suggested that PML-Q is going to field party's secretary general, Mushahid Hussain Sayed as the candidate for the slot of the President. No authentic representative of the party has confirmed the reports. It is pertinent to mention that Taseer have had a meeting with Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Zahiruddin on Friday last. Chaudhry Zahiruddin while talking to TheNation said that his visit to Governor House was just a courtesy call to Taseer who had helped him in becoming the Leader of Opposition in the Provincial Assembly.
