LAHORE (Staff Reporter): PLBFA is going to launch its electioneering campaign for the elections of the executive committee of the LCCI for the year 2015-16 by opening its central election secretariat on Monday (Today). Anjuman Tajran Branderth Road President Sheikh Abdur Rub, Shah Alam Traders Board Chairman Khusnood Butt and Asif Rehan Dar will cut the ribbon to mark the beginning of a movement against the ruling alliance of the Chamber and its politics of promotion of nepotism and corruption. PLBFA Chairman Amjad Chaudhry and President Khalid Usman said that their alliance had mustered overwhelming support last year by the members of the chamber which was reflective by the number of votes they secured.

However, they did not have sufficient time for electioneering and contacting the members of the LCCI who wanted to restore the dignity and respect of this premier chamber.

Wheat seed distribution

SIALKOT (APP): Punjab Agriculture department has finalized necessary arrangements for the distribution of rust resistant high yielding certified wheat seed varieties among the farmers for better production. Official sources told APP here Sunday that the basic concept of the programme was to promote rust resistant high yielding varieties of wheat for sustainable wheat production under the climate change situation in the country. Under the programme as many as 95,352 wheat seed bags of 50 KG will be distributed among the farmers across the province during 2015-16. Sources further added that four bags of 50 Kg of certified seed will be provided to each farmer.

In Sialkot district, as many as 5724 bags of Rust free wheat seed will be distributed in 1431 villages during 2015-16 sources revealed.

The agriculture department had finalized necessary arrangements for the distribution of seed bags in the district sources added.

Dar reviews performance of

Privatisation Division

ISLAMABAD (APP): Finance Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar Sunday chaired a meeting here to review performance of the Privatization Division. The Secretary Privatization Division, Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera briefed the Finance Minister about the performance of the Division. He also apprised the Minister about the divestment activities that it had already undertaken and intended to undertake in future. The Minister acknowledged the achievements of the Privatization Division and emphasized that in all matters of divestment, the principle of complete transparency and accountability must be upheld. He also directed Secretary Privatization Division to share with him reports about performance of the Division on regular basis.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Finance and Privatization Division attended the meeting.

Authorities complete 67pc detailed design study of Munda Dam

ISLAMABAD (APP): The authorities have almost accomplished 67 per cent of detailed design study of Munda Dam as they hoped to accomplish this very task by the year end and overall completion of design study in April 30, 2016. After completion of detailed design study and preparation of PC-I and tender documents, the project will be ready for construction that will take seven years to complete. The information provided by Ministry of Water and Power here on Sunday revealed that project activities are at halt due to non- formal approval of PC-II/non authorization of the Mohmand (Munda) Dam Hydropower project. During 2014-15, Rs. 100 million, as foreign component (soft loan) was allocated.

The amount of Rs.181.293 million as a first drawdown has been received last year from French Development Agency (AFD).

Meanwhile, Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) is pursuing development of Renewable Energy (RE) projects as per policy.

The solar power projects are being developed on IPP mode through private investors on locations proposed by investors.

The biomass power projects are being developed on IPP mode as well as under the Framework for Power Co-generation 2013 (Bagasse/Biomass) wherein sugar mills are being encouraged to generate electricity for supply to national grid using high pressure boilers.

The solar and biomass projects have been launched in all four provinces.

Guideline for farmers of

cotton crop

MUZAFFARGARH (APP): District Officer Agriculture Mehr Abid Hussain proposed farmers to do two to three sprays of nitrogen, zinc and boran after pause of one week in cotton crop as it would help crop to counter undue stress triggered from floods and rainy spell. The agriculture officer informed that cotton corp was faced with different issues and challenges due to flood and rains in the region. He stated that there was an immense growth of weeds in crops and sucking pests had also attacked the crop. He, however, added that farmers had overcome attack of Therips, blue taela and military worms. He suggested farmers to ensure early arrangements to save cotton crops.

He also urged application of nitrogen fertilizers in response to condition of crops during month of August.

He also urged them to carry out pest scouting twice in a week.

The DO Agriculture also stressed farmers to use 1.5kg nitrogen fertilizer mixed in 100 litres, zink 35 percent and boric acid 200 grams in 100 litres as it woudl serve as tonic for crops and save them from attack of different pests.
