Rain-thundershower likely at scattered places: PMD

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Sunday predicted rain-thundershower at scattered places in most parts of the country during next 24 hours.
The PMD office said that rain-thundershower is expected in upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat divisions), upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha divisions), Islamabad, upper FATA and Kashmir, while at isolated places in Bannu, D.I Khan, Zhob, Faisalabad, Sahiwal divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan.
However isolated heavy falls are also expected in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Peshawar, Mardan, Malakand and Hazara divisions. Hot and humid weather is likely elsewhere in the country. According to synoptic conditions, seasonal low lies over west Baluchistan and adjoining area with its trough extending eastwards.
Monsoon currents are penetrating into upper parts of the country. A westerly wave is also present over upper parts of the country and likely to persist there till Monday. The monsoon currents will start to penetrate over upper parts of the country from Thursday and a westerly wave is also likely to grip the same areas on Friday evening. Under the influence of these meteorological conditions, scattered rain/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in KP, upper Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during Friday to Monday.
Due to interaction of monsoon currents and westerly wave, isolated areas of Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan Divisions and the catchment areas of major rivers may receive heavy at times very heavy falls during Friday night to Sunday. Meanwhile PMD warned the prevailing high temperatures in northern areas with combination of rainfall may trigger GLOF/ flash flood events in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral resulting high flows in the local rivers and streams of northern areas during next 24hours.
Rain-thundershower occurred at scattered places in Peshawar, Hazara divisions while at isolated places in Malakand, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Zhob divisions, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, during the last 24 hours.
The rainfall during the last 24 hours occurred was recorded Risalpur 37mm, Chakwal 12mm, Okara 10.8mm, Astore 5.2mm, Kaku l4mm, Pattan 4mm, Zhob 4mm, Garhi Dupatta 3.8mm, Islamabad Z.P2mm, Skardu 0.9mm, Gilgit Trace, Hunza Trace, Muzaffarabad Trace, Rawalpindi Trace, The hottest places during the last 24 hours were recorded as, Dalbandin 43xC, Nokkundi, Shaheed Benazirabad 42, Sibbi 41xC.
