Two die in rain-related incidents

KARACHI - Two people including a child were killed in different rain-related incidents here in the city on Friday. According to details, a child was died in rainwater accumulated in Musharraf Colony in the limits of Maripur Police. The rescue workers said that they recovered the body of a 10-year-old child whose identity was yet to be ascertained. Separately, an unidentified young man was died after his motorbike was slipped on a road in Khyaban-e-Sehar Defence. The police said the incident occurred when his bike slipped and then hit by an unknown vehicle. Meanwhile, Karachi received moderate rain, turning the weather pleasant and a bit cooler while the Met Office forecast similar weather for the city on Saturday. The rain started in the afternoon on Friday, continued intermittently till evening. The rain and overcast conditions caused a considerable decrease in the mercury level, making the weather pleasant. The rain also caused traffic jams at various traffic signals and intersections including Saddar signals, Numaish, Guru Mandar, Nasamabad and other areas. The rainwater made roads muddy and slippery, especially in the narrow lanes of Saddar and old Karachi areas, resulting in problems for the motorcyclists. According to the Met Office, more rain was expected in the city and it recorded 70mm rain in the city on Friday.
