14 die in rain-related incidents in KP: PDMA

KKH opens for all types of traffic

Islamabad/PESHAWAR   -  At least 14 people were killed and 26 injured in different rain-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on second day of Eidul Azha.

According to a report by Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, at least four houses were completely destroyed and 21 were partially damaged during recent spell of heavy rains and floods.

The PDMA directed the district administration of the affected districts to expedite the relief work.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department had forecast fairly widespread to wide spread rainfall coupled with thunderstorm gusty winds in Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Swat, Lower and Upper Dir, Bajaur, Malakand, Chitral, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Mohmand, Khyber, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Kurram, Orakzai, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Tank, and South Waziristan districts.

Meanwhile, Karakoram Highway (KKH) has been opened for all types of traffic after relentless and sustained efforts by Frontier Works Organization (FWO). Recent spell of heavy rains in Gilgit-Baltistan since 20 July caused blockage of KKH with heavy mudflows at more than 20 locations between Tatta Pani and Raikot, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

After dedicated efforts of FWO teams, all blocked areas have been cleared and KKH is now open for all types of traffic, the ISPR added.
