Stronger Friendship

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi is set to make a visit to China to take part in high-level exchanges that are aimed at strengthening the relationship between the two countries. Each event like this is an opportunity to cement the countless projects, deals and partnerships that we have been nurturing with China. Now, the government must focus on how it can expand CPEC’s scope.

The meeting is worth celebrating especially after the Dasu bus explosion which caused some tension, however momentary. It proves that our alliance with China is one that can take challenges head on and come out stronger. With FM Qureshi’s visit, cooperation will be promoted through undertaking more developmental CPEC projects, taking steps for improving defence and security and collaborating on regional issues like peace in Afghanistan.

The objective now should be to explore the potential of sustainable development and amplifying industrial output. China has a lot to offer, especially when it comes to introducing newer, and greener, technology that Pakistan could greatly benefit from –especially in light of the long-standing energy issues that remain unsolved.

The statement issued by the FM stated that 100 celebratory events have been planned to rejoice this partnership. The hope is that this will continue with renewed vigour and warmth as more ambitions are highlighted. The government must persevere as intently as it has up until now so that Pakistan can develop, alongside China. We have kept this relationship strong for seven decades, and many more must come our way.
