LAHORE    -    Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman on Thursday said that engineers play key role in economic growth and development of the country and significantly contribute to improving lives of the people. He was talking to Engineering Development Board, Ministry of Commerce and Investment, Almas Hyder, who called on him here at the Governor’s House.

The governor said there was an important link between Pakistan’s engineering capacity and its economic development. He said that industrial engineering had also provided a systematic approach to streamlining and improving productivity and efficiency.

Baligh said that engineering disciplines integrate scientific principles with real life-oriented research, providing systems and process that create ways of acquiring new knowledge. He said that the integration makes engineering critical to successful industrial innovation. He said the government was committed to strengthening the engineering base on sound footing to bring industrial revolution in the country. He said it would promise better lifestyle to downtrodden strata of society. The governor said that the government always attached great importance to business community and wanted to ensure provision of healthy environment for ease of doing business. He assured Almas Hyder of early redress of genuine grievances of industrialists regarding illegal notices by the city district government. Later, Hyder briefly informed the governor about the working of EDB that 21 cellular companies have assembled 46 million mobile phones in Pakistan in the last 11 months. At least 98 percent of those phones have been sold in local markets, he added. He said that 10 more companies were in a process of establishing their plants including Nokia.
