PCF seeks DG PSB’s support in establishing cycling velodrome

LAHORE - Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) Moazzam Khan Klair has sought Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Col (R) Asif Zaman’s support in establishing an international-standard cycling velodrome in the country.
Moazzam, along with Amjad Nawaz Khan and Muhammad Waqar, met with DG PSB Col (R) Asif Zaman at his office and discussed in detail the matters regarding promotion of cycling in Pakistan and establishing an international-standard cycling velodrome, where Pakistan may host international cycling competitions.
“We had very fruitful meetings with the high-ups of world as well as Asian cycling bodies and also with the presidents of different cycling federations, who had assured us their all-out support. The governing cycling bodies are willing to award Pakistan international events but unfortunately, due to non-availability of international-standard cycling velodrome and other facilities, we are unable to host such high-profile cycling events in Pakistan,” the PCF Secretary lamented.
Moazzam Khan hoped that if the government succeeds in establishing a state-of-the-art cycling velodrome, the international teams and cyclists will start coming and competing in Pakistan. “The arrival of international teams and cyclists will not only benefit our cyclists, who will get chances to compete against the best in the business but it will also help in boosting Pakistan’s economy in many ways. Sports is now a big industry and the time is high when we should focus on promotion and development of sports in Pakistan in order to get the best benefits from it.”
Thanking the DG PSB for his efforts for the promotion of cycling in Pakistan, the PCF secretary said with the same hard work and dedication in the coming days, Pakistan Cycling Federation and Pakistan Sports Board will continue to play their active role for the betterment and further flourishment of cycling in Pakistan. “I hope DG PSB Col (R) Asif Zaman will play his active role in helping the PCF in facilitating the budding talent but also provide them the best facilities the at PSB and arrange camp for them and international equipment and coaches as well. But the dire need of the hour is to improve sports infrastructure and for cycling, there is dire need to establish first-ever international-standard velodrome, where the national players may practice for international events while the country may also host international events there,” Moazzam concluded.
