RAWALPINDI - District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar handed over a new Bomb Disposal Vehicle (BDV) to the Civil Defense Department during a ceremony here on Friday.

The ceremony was also attended by Civil Defense Department high-ups Taiman Raza, Chief Warden Civil Defense Malik Paiker Maqsood and ADCG Rawalpindi Saif Anwar Jhappa and many other officials. A total of four BDVs equipped with latest instruments have been awarded by EU to the Punjab government. The other three BDVs were given to city district governments of Faisalabad, Multan and Lahore.

DCO Saqib Zafar, while addressing the ceremony, said that the vehicle would help a lot in disposing bomb or other explosive material if found anywhere.

The latest equipments installed in this vehicle would be helpful for quick disposal of the bomb or explosive devices, he said in addition with the BDV has been made functional immediately to make it available on the occasion of Markazi Azadari processions during Muharram-ul-Harram.  He was of view that the new modern vehicle would also be helpful for the Bomb Disposal Squad in connection with discharge of their duties in a better way and more effectively.

Taiman Raza informed that the vehicle has all modern equipments for disposal of bomb, X-ray machine and a robot, which could dispose a bomb automatically. He added that trained staff has also reached Rawalpindi along with the vehicle which has obtained training from Police training School, Lahore for operating and utilizing the new BDV. Meanwhile, Administrator City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) Saqib Zafar has placed ban on pillion riding in the revenue limits of Rawalpindi Division on 9th and 10th Muharram. This order shall take effect forthwith and will remain enforce on November 24 and 25, 2012 and action would be taken against violators under section 188 of PPc, informed officials of DCO office.
