LAHORE-Former Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has thanked President Asif Ali Zardari for substantial increase in support price of wheat and termed it a decision that would go a long way towards meeting country’s food requirements   
In a written communication with the President, the former premier has that the decision would have far reaching effects not only on country’s economy, but also on the living conditions of the poor farmers with small landholdings.  
Gilani further stated that government will also save foreign exchange to be spent on wheat import since there would be no shortage of the commodity as a result of the decision. The hoarding and smuggling of wheat will also come to an end, he added.
The president, he said, had won the hearts of the entire farming community by fulfilling the promise he made with the people of south Punjab during his recent visit to Multan. Gilani also lauded another decision of the federal government regarding approval of subsidy on tube-wells for the farmers of Balochistan.
