ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani met with President Asif Ali Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Friday and discussed matters of national importance.President Zardari discussed with Army Chief Gen Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani a host of issues, mostly those related to security, with main focus on Muharram processions and latest wave of terrorism in the country and the counter measures adopted to ensure peace.The army chief also briefed the president about his visit to Kabul to attend 36th meeting of Tripartite Commission (TPC) held at Afghan Ministry of Defence.Later on, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf also joined them and assured the president that security forces would be facilitated with every kind of resources for consolidation of law and order situation across the country.The president felicitated the prime minister on successful Eighth D-8 Summit which he said would promote positive image of the country. He told the prime minister about his talks with leaders of the D-8 countries at the penta-lateral meeting of Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Turkey and Pakistan.The president expressed the hope that the summit would prove instrumental in further strengthening the bonds among the member countries and forging close cooperation in meeting the common challenges confronted by them.The president also briefed the PM about his bilateral meetings with his Nigerian counterpart Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Bangladeshi delegation head and advisor to PM on International Affairs Dr Syed Ali Gowher Rizvi, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Indonesian President Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Egypt Vice President Mahmud Mekki and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
