College organises prize distribution ceremony

Rawalpindi-A regional prize distribution ceremony was held under the auspices of FGEI Directorate (C/G) at Federal Government Postgraduate College for Women, Kashmir Road yesterday.

On the occasion, Prof Shaista Zaid was the chief guest while GSO-I Rawalpindi Region Lt Col Saddatullah, College Principal Rahna Qazi and other faculty members were also present.

Directorate of FGEI Cantt and Garrison annually organizes All Pakistan Sports and co-curricular activities to encourage the spirit of healthy competition and to promote co-curricular activities among students.

Competitions were held among the colleges of FGEI Directorate at regional and all Pakistan level. The ceremony comprised of two segments - regional prize distribution and Azm-e-Aalishan. Addressing the ceremony, GSO-I Lt Col Saadatullah said Prof Shaista Zaid played vital role as an academician, orator, administrator and media personality.

He also mentioned the historical development of the FGEI Directorate and its mission to provide affordable education and holistic grooming of the future torch-bearers.

He highlighted the importance of academic and co-curricular activities in this regard and congratulated the students on their achievements. The first segment of the event titled as Azm-e-Aalishan was held to commemorate and pay rich tribute to the founding leaders and valiant armed forces.

“The purpose of arranging such programs is to keep our young generation aware of our glorious past and the legacy of our great leaders whose vision, determination and political acumen resulted in the creation of our dear homeland, Pakistan,” he said.

It would infuse such a revolutionary spirit among the youth which would motivate them to guard the physical and intellectual borders of the homeland passionately, vigilantly and selflessly, he added.

Sajar Ali paid tribute to the poet-philosopher Allama Iqbal by presenting some selections from Kalam-e-Iqbal in her melodious voice.

Shabeeh Fatima also rendered some invigorating verses of Allama Iqbal that inspired the audience.

The real gem of the event was ‘Sohni Dharti Regional Dress Show’ which fabulously displayed the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Pakistan. Students also presented a short skit steeped in the spirit of nationalism.

The drama won a great deal of applause and was followed by the national song ‘Aye Rah-e-Haq k Shaheedon’ that left the audience mesmerized.

In the second part of the ceremony, certificates and trophies were presented by the chief guest to all the winners at the regional level.

On the basis of overall performance in sports and co-curricular activities, the trophy for best college in the region went to FG Postgraduate College for Women, Kashmir Road, Rawalpindi.

In her address, Prof Shaista Zaid congratulated the students and faculty on the stellar performances.

She advised the students that they must equip themselves with Iqbal’s idealogy and the Quaid’s vigilance to guard against the cultural tsunami of other nations.

The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by the principal who congratulated all the students on their performance and thanked the chief guest and GSO-I for gracing the occasion.
