Past in Perspective

“Fraternity has subtleties.”
–Fernando Pessoa

Fraternities are an essential part of college in America today. Their history dates back to the very first Greek-letter society called Phi Beta Kappa Society that was formed in 1775. The fraternity was more of an honor society and its first meeting took place of December 5, 1776. This is what gives it the title of the oldest fraternity in North America today. Phi Beta Kappa is a nationwide organisation that is recognised to be the most prestigious. Its goals are to promote and advocate for excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. It has chapters in 10 percent of all American universities and colleges and only 10 percent of all graduates are invited to join the fraternity.
