Relief items worth Rs212m sent by Army in 15 days

LAHORE - A total of 3000 tons of relief items worth Rs 212 million have been dispatched by Pakistan Army from Lahore Garrison to flood stricken areas of Southern Punjab and Sindh interior within 15days of establishment of its flood relief camps in the City. This was stated by Brigadier Iftikhar Ahmad, Commander Logistics Lahore Corps while speaking to the media at Fortress Stadium Lahore. He said that 17 trucks of relief items had been dispatched only today (Tuesday) while the total figure of trucks dispatched so far stood at 242. Brigadier Iftikhar also informed that Pakistan Army had established over 16 flood relief camps in Lahore Cantonment and more than six in the City. He commended the response of the philanthropists, donors and social welfare organizations and requested for further contributions to supplement the overall national relief effort. He said that in view of the magnitude of catastrophe the damages to crops and property were alarming. He emphasised that a sustained supply chain at even a greater scale was required to further augment the efforts in hand. He appealed for provision of tentage, food items, utensils, medicines, portable water and generator sets to alleviate the sufferings of the affectees.
