ISLAMABAD - The National Assembly Secretariat, in the wake of Coronavirus pandemic, has sought opinion from National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) to suspend fifty percent of activities including parliamentary committee meetings.
While the cases of the fifth wave of Coronavirus is fast increasing in different parts of the country, the National Assembly secretariat would once again decide to curtailing the activities of the parliament to avoid spread of the virus.
Background discussions with the parliamentary sources revealed that the government would not summon the national assembly session for next half-month to avoid spread of deadly virus.
The strategy to summon the session of the National Assembly and stop parliamentary activities would be evolved soon. The NCOC has already issued instructions for closing the educational institutes.
According to the tentative schedule, the National Assembly secretariat was planned to be summoned next week of this month but now it would not be summoned in order to observe proper SOPs due to the severe fifth wave of Coronavirus.
The advice would be sought from NCOC through the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs vide a letter addressed to Secretary Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
The purpose of taking the opinion was to seek a way out to call a session of the National Assembly as the lower house has to fulfil its mandatory 130 days in the current Parliamentary year. The National Assembly has so far met only for 70 days in the current parliamentary years, as it is mandatory to meet 60 more days before the month of August.
