Islamabad-Inspector General of Police (IGP) Qazi Jameel-ur-Rehman on Wednesday visited Red Zone to review the security arrangements. 

He examined all the checkpoints leading to the Red Zone and issued necessary directions. 

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer apprised the IGP over checking procedure and other security measures.  Qazi Jameel-ur-Rehman directed the deployed staff to stay alert during duty hours as Red Zone was a sensitive area.  He asked the personnel to ensure foolproof security of important buildings, office and embassies present at the area.  All the officers and jawans on duty must wear bulletproof jackets, helmets and surgical masks to avoid any untoward situation, he added. 

“No negligence will be tolerated in that regard,” the IGP strictly warned.

Meanwhile, the traffic police of twin cities have issued a comprehensive traffic plan for convenience of road on Pakistan Parade Day. SSP Traffic Farrukh Rashid and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Rai Mazhar finalised the traffic plan and accordingly the entry of heavy traffic will be banned from 12am to 2pm (Thursday) in twin cities. All the traffic approaching Faizabad will be diverted to alternative routes from diversions placed by police at various places.

According to traffic plan, the vehicles coming from Lahore will be diverted to Rawat T-Cross to reach motorway after passing through Saddar and Peshawar Road, Rawalpindi.  The commuters going to New Islamabad International Airport via Expressway will be diverted from Khanna Bridge.

The commuters will reach their destination via Lehtrar Road, Taramari Chowk, Park Road, Rawal Dam Chowk, and Murree Road to reach Srinagar Highway.

The vehicles going Murree will be diverted from Kashmir Chowk and the commuters will reach their destination via Bhara Kahu.

Faizabad Flyover and Expressway from Khanna Bridge to Zero Point will remain close for all types of vehicle vehicles.

Region Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Imran Ahmed said extra force of traffic police/wardens would be deputed to regulate traffic on Pakistan Parade day.
